The 23-year-old young Chinese man Huang Hongxin reunited, 19 years later, with the doctor who saved his life during childhood, at the same hospital where he is now continuing his medical training. Huang recently enrolled as a postgraduate student in the neurosurgery department at Xiangya Hospital, affiliated with Central South University, in Hunan province, in central China.
Almost two decades earlier, Huang had undergone, at the same hospital, surgery to treat a congenital heart disease. His condition included pulmonary artery stenosis and patent foramen ovale. Huang is from Jiangxi province, in eastern China.
Now, the young man studies and works alongside the surgeon who operated on him when he was a child, in a story that combines medicine, gratitude, and a poignant return to the place where his life was saved.
