The Alternative for Germany party (AfD) secured a comfortable victory in the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Following the result, the party leadership took the opportunity to call for early elections.

The AfD president nationalised the victory and directed direct criticism at Friedrich Merz, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). In his statements, he said Merz will be "replaced by Christmas", suggesting an expected decline of the rival party.

The AfD also expressed conviction that the CDU will continue to lose support while the right-wing populist party will continue to grow in Germany.
