The AfD achieved a significant victory that represents an important milestone in the German political landscape, marking one of its best electoral results at the regional level to date.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, which governed the region, suffered a significant defeat in these elections, seeing its traditional dominance in Saxony-Anhalt challenged by the advance of the AfD.
