President Lula will make a national broadcast address on radio and television this Sunday (6th), at 8:30 PM, about Brazil's Independence Day. The authorization was granted by the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Kassio Nunes Marques, who classified the broadcast as being of public interest. The address will last nearly four minutes.
The request for the broadcast was submitted by the Secretariat for Social Communication of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom). According to the agency, the objective is to bring the population an official message about the meaning of Brazil's Independence, the unity of the country, and the permanent values of the Brazilian State. The Secom classified the address as an institutional message.
In the ruling that authorized the broadcast, Minister Kassio Nunes Marques stated that September 7th is part of Brazil's official calendar and holds its own historical and institutional significance, independent of government functions and of Lula's role as head of State. The minister rejected the possibility that the broadcast could be interpreted as institutional propaganda linked to the Executive branch.
