The Festa do Avante!, the PCP's political rentrée, ended this Sunday at Quinta da Atalaia, in Seixal, this year celebrating its 50th anniversary. The event is one of the country's largest political gatherings and marks the return of political activity after the summer holiday period.
In the usual closing speech, the PCP's secretary-general, Raimundo, directed criticism at the Government but also at PS, Chega and IL. The communist leader accused these parties of enabling a "national disaster policy".
The reference to PS, the party that supports the State Budget of the current Executive, and to the right-wing parties Chega and IL comes in the context of a parliamentary alliance that has allowed the minority Government of PSD/CDS to pass its proposals. Raimundo used the stage of the Festa do Avante! to condemn this political convergence.
