BE demands reopening of radiotherapy in Évora and warns of travel to Faro

The Left Block demanded the reopening of the radiotherapy unit at Hospital do Espírito Santo in Évora, suspended since June 1st, and warned that hundreds of cancer patients are being displaced to Santarém, Faro or Lisbon to receive treatment. The party expressed concern about the situation and questioned the administration of the Local Health Unit of Central Alentejo about the measures to be adopted. The suspension was due to the replacement of equipment in an investment of four million euros, under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, in a service concessioned to Joaquim Chaves Oncologia. BE also recalled that a tender for a new concession, worth 18.6 million euros, was allegedly annulled by the Court of Auditors, and defended that radiotherapy technicians' jobs must be guaranteed.
