The secretary-general of PS, José Luís Carneiro, refused to reveal the party's decision on the motion of censure presented by Chega, but reaffirmed that the socialists will guarantee the country's political stability. The statements were made on Sunday, on the sidelines of a visit to the São Mateus Fair, in Viseu.
José Luís Carneiro criticized those who intend to provoke a political crisis and recalled that PS already avoided a similar crisis in 2025, when it prevented the country from going to elections during a sensitive period, with presidential elections and the response to the storm crisis.
The socialist leader said he was listening to party comrades, including the secretariat, the national political commission and members of the political commission, until Tuesday, before making a decision on the motion of censure.
Carneiro also criticized the leader of Chega, accusing him of occupying the media space through attacks on democratic institutions, while avoiding scrutiny on fundamental issues such as failures in health, education and cost of living.
