Porto has about 85 kilometres of streets with frequent illegal parking, which represents 12% of the entire road network of the city. The Municipal Police of Porto tows approximately 15,000 vehicles per year due to irregular parking.

According to the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS), the city of Porto loses at least 100 million euros annually in potential revenue associated with illegal parking. The document states that this estimate is made from a conservative perspective.

The diagnosis of the PMUS, consulted by the news agency reporting this story, indicates that these values could be channelled towards improving the city's infrastructure, if illegal parking were eliminated or significantly reduced.
