The Sabseg Championship, the Elite Division of the Aveiro Football Association, kicks off this Sunday for the 2026-27 season, with nine matches scheduled for 5:00 PM, broadcast on the AFA TV platform. One of the highlights of this edition is the administrative inclusion of AD Valonguense, third place in Division 1 – South Series, filling the spot left by the withdrawal of historic Pampilhosa.
Anadia FC returns to district football after 56 years, after suffering its second consecutive relegation, descending from Liga 3 and the Championship of Portugal. This season marks the centenary of the Bairrada club, whose first team is now managed by an SAD with the aim of reviving the club's fortunes.
Mourisquense, São Vicente Pereira, Argoncilhe and Carregosense are the teams promoted to the company of the 18 clubs in the Elite Division. In the previous season, the title was won by Ovarense, which earned promotion to the Championship of Portugal, while Paços de Brandão (69 points) and Estarreja (65 points) finished in second and third place, respectively, keeping their coaches. SC Espinho finished in fourth place, in a season marked by the unsuccessful bid for the single promotion spot. Relegated to Division 1 were Esmoriz, Juveforce, Alba and Avanca.
