Gianni Infantino's Re-Candidacy for FIFA Presidency Confirmed

dnoticias.pt6 September 2026 at 15:56

The Italian-Swiss Gianni Infantino confirmed that he will run for re-election as FIFA president, a position he has held since 2016. The decision was announced through a spokesperson for the entity that governs world football, who told the French Press Agency (AFP) that Infantino had already announced in April his intention to run for re-election in 2027 and that nothing has changed in that position.

Infantino, 56, decided to run for re-election despite the crisis triggered by his failed plan, which resulted in the loss of support from some federations. This re-candidacy comes at a time of some contestation to his mandate.

The FIFA spokesperson reiterated that the current president will run for the top position of the organization once again, maintaining his intention to remain at the head of the entity that governs world football for another term.
