The return of the glow: why makeup now wants skin that looks real

oglobo6 September 2026 at 13:00

After years of dominance of high-coverage foundations, marked contours, and intense highlighters, makeup has undergone a transformation. The trend now is to let the skin breathe, abandoning the excessively corrected look in favor of a more natural and spontaneous finish.

The luminosity, previously achieved with specific and visible products, now appears more discreetly and integrated with the natural texture of the face. The shine seeks to reproduce the natural radiance, creating the impression of freshness and hydration without appearing as an extra layer of product.

This change is directly linked to the popularization of skincare. As skincare has taken up more space in the beauty routine, makeup has also begun to assume a new function: to enhance the result of well-treated skin, without necessarily hiding its original texture.

The saturation caused by digital filters and constant exposure to perfect images on social media has also contributed to this behavioral change. The desire for a more authentic appearance closer to reality has driven the return of the glow, now in a more subtle and truthful version.
