The Volta packaging collection network is to be reinforced with 12 new kiosks in restaurants, cafés and hotels. According to SDR Portugal, responsible for the Deposit and Refund System, six of these kiosks are already operational in the locations of Albufeira, Barcelos, Cascais, Funchal, Ponta Delgada and Vila Nova de Famalicão.
The remaining six kiosks are still in the implementation phase and will be installed in Almada, Aveiro, Mafra, Oeiras, Portimão and Vila do Conde. These devices allow the return of large quantities of packaging at once, with capacity to collect approximately 120 beverage containers per minute.
The goal of SDR Portugal is to have 50 Volta kiosks operational across the country. Hotels, cafés and restaurants have three collection solutions available: large-volume kiosks, automatic points in supermarkets and hypermarkets, and a direct collection service that allows establishments to request packaging collection on-site.
