The Republican National Guard arrested a 32-year-old man in Loulé, in the Algarve, for illegal fuel transport. The operation resulted in the seizure of 172 jerricans of fuel.
The individual was transporting the containers without legal authorization for fuel transport, which constitutes a crime under current Portuguese legislation.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the arrest and the origin of the seized fuel, in order to determine possible links to illegal distribution networks.
This type of seizure falls within the regular actions of the GNR to combat illegal fuel trafficking, a growing concern in the southern regions of the country.
