A man was intercepted by the GNR in Loulé while trying to flee inspection with a vehicle loaded with fuel. The authorities detected the driver during a control operation and proceeded to search the vehicle.
Inside the vehicle, 172 jerricans of fuel were found, all of them loaded. The amount of fuel seized suggests a large-scale smuggling operation.
The authorities suspect that the fuel was circulating illegally, outside of regulatory conditions. The driver was detained and the vehicle seized for investigation.
The case was reported by the authorities in Loulé, in the Algarve, a region frequently targeted by operations against fuel smuggling due to its proximity to the Spanish border.
