Border control at airports. Mandatory biometric data collection now in force

RTP Notícias6 September 2026 at 12:10

Mandatory biometric data collection for all passengers arriving from countries outside the European Union came into force this Sunday. This measure applies to border controls at airports.

The new regulation covers all passengers travelling from third countries to the European area. Biometric data typically includes fingerprints and facial images.

This initiative is part of the strengthening of border controls in the European Union, aiming to increase security and improve the identification of travellers entering European territory.

The measure directly affects non-European passengers arriving at European airports, who will now be required to provide their biometric data as part of the border control process.
