Prevention is also done through play: "Is this secret good or bad?"

Açoriano Oriental6 September 2026 at 12:30

APAV developed a prevention program aimed at preschool children that teaches them to recognize uncomfortable touches, distinguish secrets that should or should not be kept, and identify trusted people they can turn to for help.

The program uses a playful approach appropriate to different age groups, adapting the content to the comprehension abilities of each group. The title "Is this secret good or bad?" summarizes one of the main themes addressed.

The main objective is to empower children with tools to protect themselves, teaching them to identify situations of discomfort and to talk about them with trusted adults.

This initiative is part of APAV's broader work on preventing violence and abuse, seeking to reach children at an early stage of their development.

Siege of Leningrad: dying of hunger to protect seeds

This article tells one of the most extraordinary and least known stories of World War II: during the siege of Leningrad, a group of scientists made a silent and suicidal resistance to protect a collection of seeds that was vital for the future of Soviet agriculture. Simon Parkin narrates how these researchers preferred to die of hunger rather than consume the seeds they kept, sacrificing their lives to preserve an essential resource for the reconstruction of the country after the war.
