The Portuguese Government extended until December 31, 2026 the deadline for completing the TAP privatization process. The decision was approved through the Council of Ministers resolution no. 176-A/2026, published on September 4.
The deadline extension aims to allow three weeks of final negotiations with Air France-KLM and Lufthansa, the two companies that are in the race to acquire the Portuguese airline.
During this additional period, the two competitors shall submit their respective improved binding proposals, after which the reference direct sale process is expected to be successfully concluded.
The executive justified the deadline extension as necessary to ensure that negotiations reach the appropriate final stage, allowing an orderly and transparent conclusion of the entire TAP privatization process.
