The volcanic eruption in Indonesia led to the suspension of flights at six airports in the country. This decision mainly affects international and domestic air routes, causing significant impact on air transport in the region.
Among the closed airports is Soekarno-Hatta, in Jakarta, which is one of the country's main air terminals. In addition to this, three other airports located in the Indonesian capital also had their operations suspended due to the eruption.
Outside the capital, the international airport of Bandung was closed as a precautionary measure. Also the airport of Radin, located near Bandar Kampung, on the island of Sumatra, suspended all flights.
The Indonesian authorities decided to close these six airports to ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft, since volcanic activity can pose serious risks to aviation, including the presence of volcanic ash in the atmosphere.
