The Aqueduto de Vila do Conde secured a place in the final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal contest, in the category of Great Works, after being announced as a finalist during a program broadcast by TVI on Saturday night.

The passage to the decisive phase was received with enthusiasm by supporters who, over the past months, contributed their votes to promote one of the most emblematic monuments in the municipality. On social media, the candidacy promoters thanked the support of the population and all those who believed in the historical and heritage value of the Aqueduct.

Built between the 17th and 18th centuries to supply the former Convent of Santa Clara, the Aqueduto de Vila do Conde is considered one of the largest and most impressive historical engineering works in the country, with hundreds of arches distributed along several kilometres, constituting one of the landmarks of local heritage.

After surpassing the various selection stages, the Aqueduct now heads to the final with the ambition of transforming the recognition already achieved into a historic victory for Vila do Conde and for all the heritage of the region.
