Forest fires in Spain have already burned more than 295,720 hectares since the beginning of the year, according to data from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). This value represents 45% of all areas burned in the European Union during the same period.
The MITECO report also indicates that 43 large fires have been recorded in the country to date. The data was released this Friday by the Spanish ministry.
The situation places Spain as the most affected country in the European Union in terms of area burned this year. MITECO is the body responsible for compiling and publishing these statistics on fires in Spanish territory.
