Understand the 'fancy oil' discovered by Petrobras in the Amazon Mouth and why it can be so valued

Petrobras discovered oil in the Amazon Mouth Basin, off the coast of Amapá, with characteristics that can increase its commercial potential. The initial analyses of the samples taken from the Morpho well indicate an API gravity between 35 and 40, which classifies the oil as light. The higher the API gravity, the lighter the oil and the greater its value tends to be for refineries.

The state-owned company has not yet completed the full characterization of the oil. The samples are being analyzed at the company's Research, Development and Innovation Center (Cenpes), in Rio de Janeiro, and the final results should be known in the coming weeks. The material traveled more than 2,000 kilometers by sea between the coast of Amapá and Rio de Janeiro to undergo these tests.

Petrobras is studying bringing a Búzios drill ship to Amapá and starting the drilling of new wells within three months. The Amazon Mouth area will have three additional wells drilled as part of the area's exploration strategy.
