Between June 1 and August 31, detection systems recorded 893 thousand electrical discharges between clouds and the ground across Europe, a summer marked by severe thunderstorm episodes, hail, destructive gusts and, in some locations, extreme conditions.
Portugal appears as a surprise in the data, showing higher-than-expected electrical activity figures for the period.
The map created based on the records allows the geographic distribution of discharges to be visualized across the entire European continent during the summer months.
The detection systems used captured all electrical discharges that hit European soil over these three months.
