About 15% of Portuguese people, equivalent to one and a half million people, will continue without a family doctor until at least 2028. This situation represents a significant gap in access to primary healthcare in Portugal.
It is the government itself that admits this reality in the document that defines the objectives and funding of the National Health Service for the next three years. The executive thus acknowledges the difficulties in guaranteeing family doctors for the entire Portuguese population.
