Benfica beat Marítimo 3-0 on Saturday at Marítimo's Stadium, in a match from the fifth round of Liga Portugal. The eagles completely dominated the encounter and built a convincing rout.
The scoring was opened just seven minutes in. Gianluca Prestianni broke down the left, cut inside and fired a right-foot shot. The Marítimo goalkeeper parried it forward and Leandro Barreiro was on the rebound to, with his left foot, make it 0-1.
In the second half, Pavlidis did score, but the goal was ruled out for offside. The Luxembourger international Barreiro then struck again. Prestianni again caused problems down the left and found Schjelderup, who crossed to the far post. Pavlidis, with his head, set up Barreiro, who headed home with no chance for the keeper to make it 0-2.
The third goal came after the hour mark and was scored by Prestianni himself. The Argentine recovered the ball still in the midfield, broke towards goal and resisted the pressure to close the scoring at 0-3.
