Pedestrian strikes in urban areas of Porto caused 13 deaths and 24 serious injuries between 2019 and 2023. This data covers a five-year period and represents the pedestrian accident balance in the city during that interval.
The areas of the city where these accidents were concentrated include the Baixa, Boavista, and the waterfront. These neighborhoods and areas are locations with high pedestrian traffic and intense vehicle circulation.
In addition to these historic and commercial areas, pedestrian strikes also occurred on major streets and avenues of Porto. These urban arteries, characterized by high flows of vehicles and pedestrians, present greater risks of accidents.
The numbers reveal an average of about 2.6 deaths per year and nearly 5 serious injuries annually due to pedestrian strikes in the city of Porto during the analyzed period.
