The stage victory went to German Marco Brenner, who managed to cross the finish line in first place. However, the rider who caught the attention of the race was Spanish Enric Mas, who attacked during the stage and consolidated his position at the top of the general classification.
Primoz Roglic, one of the main favorites of the Vuelta, suffered a significant loss of time, finishing more than two minutes and ten seconds behind Enric Mas in the general classification. The Slovenian was also overtaken by Austrian Felix Gall, who is now just 2.06 minutes behind the Mallorcan rider.
With this result, Enric Mas strengthens his position as leader of the Vuelta general classification, while Roglic loses significant ground in the battle for the title. The stage in the province of Jaén demonstrated once again that heat and mountainous terrain are decisive factors in the Spanish competition.
