"WE CANNOT NORMALIZE A GENOCIDE": INÊS AIRES PEREIRA CANCELS PERFORMANCE AT FESTIVAL

Notícias de Coimbra5 September 2026 at 16:50

Actress Inês Aires Pereira announced on September 5 that she will not participate in the Commedia a La Carte Fest. The decision was made after the festival's organization revealed that Israeli actor Henry David Nahem would also be present at the event. Inês Aires Pereira made the decision to cancel her performance as a form of protest.

The Portuguese artist stated that she cannot normalize a genocide, referring to the conflict in Gaza. The actress's position comes in the context of growing criticism of the participation of artists associated with Israel in international festivals.

The organization of the Commedia a La Carte Fest has not yet publicly commented on Inês Aires Pereira's decision. The festival takes place annually and features the participation of artists from different countries.

PSD deputy Francisco Figueira celebrated the inauguration of the Eastern Évora Bypass of the IP2 as a "historic moment" for the Alentejo, considering it a decisive 12.8-kilometer infrastructure, with an investment of 54.9 million euros, and criticized the former "Gerrymandering Government" for not completing the IP2 route during its eight years in power. The PS congratulated itself on the work, funded by the PRR, but recalled that it was assumed by a socialist government and "abandoned and totally paralyzed" in 2011 by the PSD/CDS-PP executive. The PCP also claimed the completion of the remaining section of the IP2, which has been suspended since 2011.
