The Évora Football Association (AFE) celebrated 100 years of history with a positive balance, marked by the growth of sports practice in the district, by investment in infrastructure and by the financial consolidation of the institution. António Pereira, president of AFE, considers that the association has reached a level of national prominence, the result of much work over the past few years.
One of the indicators highlighted by the president is the fact that Évora is the only association in the country that has exceeded 3% of the population playing football and futsal, in a district with about 152 thousand inhabitants. In training, 48% of 11-year-old children born in the district practice football or futsal. Pereira travels about 35 thousand kilometers per year within the district to follow the clubs.
When he took office ten years ago, AFE faced difficulties in meeting basic commitments, sometimes not having money to pay salaries. Currently, the association has a heritage exceeding 2.5 million euros, including its own headquarters, the result of the investment made. The motto "We grow together" marks this celebration, which also represents a moment of recognition of the community that contributed to the development of football and futsal in the district.
António Pereira looks at the last decade with a sense of accomplishment and calls for continuity in growth. The president hopes that the next boards will be able to surpass the work carried out, leaving solid foundations for those who come after. The centenary comes as an opportunity to project the future of an association that intends to continue growing together with the clubs, athletes and the entire community of Évora.
