Actor João Victor Gonçalves, 24 years old, who plays the character Mau Mau in the series "Quem ama cuida", suffered a homophobic attack upon arriving at Rock in Rio on Saturday night, the 4th. The incident was filmed by streamer GH Reel RJ during a live stream on the Kick platform, while the actor was walking alone toward the entrance of the festival's VIP area.
In the video, the streamer and two other friends follow João Victor for a few seconds, laughing and making derogatory comments about his clothing. Among the phrases said were "Wth, what is that? Terrible horror. Man threw on a tomato," accompanied by laughter.
On social media, João Victor responded to the incident, posting a video in which he appeared emotional. He said he opened Twitter and was reading many supportive messages, which made him cry. The actor stated that "homophobia is a crime" and added that the character Mau Mau represents someone strong and brave, who faces structural homophobia courageously.
