The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) seized 20,226 liters of red, white and rosé wine from a producer-wholesaler in the municipality of Gouveia, district of Guarda. The operation was carried out this week by the Regional Unit of the Centro, through the Specialized Brigade of Wines and Vitivinicultural Products.
The seizure was due to non-compliance with labelling rules, specifically the absence of the indication of the wine's origin on the product labels. The wines were already bottled and ready to be placed on the market. In addition to the seizure of all the product, an administrative offense proceeding was initiated against the establishment.
ASAE considers that non-compliance with labelling standards may harm market transparency and mislead the consumer, since the origin of the product is mandatory and essential information for consumer decision-making.
The authority also highlighted that it will continue to reinforce surveillance in the wine sector, aiming to ensure compliance with standards and protect consumer rights.
