The Biblioteca Municipal Álvaro de Campos in Tavira will carry out throughout the month of September the project "Poesia em Boa Cãopanhia", which brings together children, poetry, and dogs in a relaxed sharing environment. The initiative is aimed at participants aged between 9 and 13 and aims to stimulate a love for reading, as well as increase children's confidence in reading aloud.
The project is the result of a partnership between the Municipal Library and the Unit for Animal Welfare and Health (UBESSA), inspired by international dog-assisted reading programs. The sessions combine moments of reading preparation, expressive reading, and interaction with the animals, accompanied by UBESSA technicians.
Four sessions are planned throughout September, on the 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th, between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM, with an approximate duration of 90 minutes each. Under the motto "More than reading poetry, it's sharing it with love", the initiative seeks to create a positive relationship with reading, particularly among children with less confidence in reading aloud or without established reading habits.
Participation is free but subject to prior registration limited to 20 participants. Those interested can obtain more information by calling 281 320 585 or by email at [email protected].
