The Polytechnic University of Bragança hosts, between September 7 and 10, the 3rd European Symposium of the Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society, bringing together the international scientific community dedicated to the conservation of freshwater mollusks. This is the second time the city hosts a European meeting dedicated to these organisms, 14 years after the first one was held.
The symposium program covers ten thematic areas, including genetics, ecotoxicology, reproduction, invasive species, habitat restoration and species conservation. Researchers from institutions in the United Kingdom, Germany, United States, Argentina and representatives of the International Union for Conservation of Nature participate in the event.
The initiative aims to strengthen international scientific cooperation and the sharing of strategies to protect a group of organisms considered among the most threatened worldwide. The program ends on September 10 with a visit to the Douro Internacional Natural Park and the Rabaçal river, in the Tua basin, allowing participants to learn about freshwater mollusk species present in the region.
