The European Court of Auditors published a report concluding that the EU's ability to defend itself from a foreign invasion by 2030 remains in doubt. The report identifies that fragmented infrastructure and dependence on the United States continue to hinder the so-called European "defense readiness".
According to the report, the EU is much better prepared to defend itself than before Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. However, the ECA warns that it will be difficult to achieve the goal of being prepared for defense by the end of the decade.
