Fundamental municipalities for energy transition want fair compensation

The municipalities reaffirmed on Friday that territories hosting infrastructure fundamental for the energy transition must be duly recognized and benefit from fair compensation that is transparent and proportional to their contribution to the country. This position was expressed within the context of a debate on the distribution of energy transition benefits to territories hosting infrastructure such as wind farms, solar power plants, or energy transmission lines. The municipalities argue that those hosting this infrastructure in their territory should receive adequate compensation, given that they assume significant environmental and territorial impacts. The demand arises in a context of growing investment in renewable energy in Portugal, where many inland municipalities host a large portion of this infrastructure without obtaining the corresponding economic benefits.
