The Direção-Geral da Saúde (DGS) is proposing to start cardiovascular screening at age 35, a measure aimed at preventing cardiovascular events before the appearance of clinical symptoms. According to the data presented, approximately 80% of cardiovascular events are preventable through timely interventions.
The proposed screening includes the assessment of essential risk factors, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose. The goal is to identify changes in these indicators early, allowing preventive interventions before they become serious health problems.
This proposal comes in the context of a broader effort to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, which continue to be one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality. Regular and systematic assessment of these parameters can significantly contribute to the cardiovascular health of the population.
The measure is aligned with international cardiovascular prevention recommendations, which advocate that the identification and control of risk factors in early stages of adult life are essential to prevent the development of more serious pathologies.
