The United States Army claimed on Saturday to have destroyed three Iranian tankers, including one off the coast of Kharg Island, near Iran's main oil export center. The attacks were carried out after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships, the US Central Command (Centcom), responsible for American military operations in the region, reported.
One of the tankers was hit "after the crew received orders to abandon the vessel," the American Army stated. According to American military officials, the targets were "part of a clandestine multimillion-dollar network that funds" the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its allies.
