Luciano Pampado Casquel, 68 years old, was located in Paraguay after almost 40 years of fleeing Brazilian justice. He is wanted for involvement in a triple homicide that occurred in 1987, in São Manuel, in the interior of São Paulo, according to the Civil Police. In Paraguay, the Brazilian lived under the false name of Luciano Pereira Castelo.
The discovery of his true identity happened after a traffic incident reported on August 28 in Asunción, capital of Paraguay, in the Mbocayaty neighborhood. During the traffic dispute, Luciano pointed a pistol at a truck driver. A video recorded by a witness captured the moment of the threat.
After the images were disseminated, Paraguayan authorities located the Brazilian at a house in the city of Lambaré, in the metropolitan region of Asunción. He handed over two pistols to authorities, one of which was allegedly used in the threat against the truck driver, according to the Paraguayan press.
Luciano gave a statement and was released, but remains with an irregular migratory situation in Paraguay. The case reignited discussions between the police forces of Brazil and Paraguay for the eventual extradition of the Brazilian.
