American envoys arrive in Moscow for peace negotiations with Zelensky denouncing new attacks on Ukraine

Expresso5 September 2026 at 11:49

The American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow to mediate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. The visit of the United States representatives occurs at a time of heightened tensions between the two countries in conflict.

The talks aim to find a solution for a ceasefire and establish peace negotiations between Russians and Ukrainians. The American mediation comes in a context of international efforts to try to end the war that has been going on for quite some time.

In parallel, President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced Russian attacks on two airports on Ukrainian territory. These attacks demonstrate that, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, violence on the ground continues to occur significantly.

The arrival of the American envoys in Moscow coincides with a critical period of the conflict, where military confrontations and diplomatic initiatives are taking place in parallel, evidencing the complexity of the negotiation process to achieve peace.

Why does the US celebrate Labor Day on September 7th?

The United States celebrates Labor Day on the first Monday of September, and not on May 1st like most countries, due to the history of the American labor movement. The first celebration took place on September 5, 1882 in New York, organized by the Central Labor Union. In 1894, President Grover Cleveland made the date an official federal holiday. The reason for choosing September is linked to the fact that May 1st became associated with the events of the Haymarket Revolt in Chicago (1886) and with radical and socialist labor movements, which the US government preferred to avoid. Additionally, September helped fill the gap between Independence Day (July 4th) and Thanksgiving (November).
