Maritime Police seize 1.4 kilos of cocaine

Diário de Coimbra5 September 2026 at 11:42

The Maritime Police seized 1.4 kilos of cocaine during an operation on the coastline of Corvo island, in the Azores. The drug was found inside a package that was in the coastal zone of the island.

Corvo is the smallest and most northern of the nine islands of the Azores, being one of the most isolated regions of Portugal. Its remote location in the North Atlantic makes it frequently targeted by drug trafficking attempts through maritime routes.

The authorities did not disclose details about the origin of the cocaine, the intended destination, or any arrests related to the seizure. The operation was carried out without indicating whether there were prior alerts or ongoing investigations that led to the discovery of the drug.
