The JPP party, through its leader Filipe Sousa, presented a Bill that proposes the creation of a subsidy to reduce the cost of goods transported by sea between mainland Portugal, Madeira, and the Azores. The proposal aims to compensate up to 100% of eligible costs associated with maritime transport.
The main objective of this measure is to lower the price of essential products for consumers living in the autonomous regions. The JPP argues that the financial support should have a direct reflection on the prices charged to final consumers.
Filipe Sousa argues that this initiative could mitigate the high cost of living on the islands, where the prices of goods are frequently higher due to transport costs. The party therefore intends to guarantee greater equity between consumers on the mainland and in the autonomous regions.
