A Chinese citizen was rescued alive this Saturday from a tunnel in northern Nepal, where he had been trapped since the devastating landslide that hit the region on August 26. The man was found in the tunnel of the Upper Trishuli-1 hydroelectric project, one of the structures hit by the avalanche of water, mud and debris caused by the natural disaster.
The rescue was confirmed by Raja Ram Basnet, a spokesperson for the Nepalese Army, to the AFP news agency. This rescue comes one day after two Nepali workers were also found alive in another tunnel buried by the same tragedy.
The two Nepali survivors were identified as Sanjay Shah, a 30-year-old mechanical supervisor, and Kabir Maharjan, a 45-year-old supervisor, who had been trapped since the landslide in the Trishuli-3 tunnel, totaling nine days in captivity.
