Tax office can refund up to 4 years of IUC: find out who can recover this money

The Portuguese Tax Authority published guidance that allows taxpayers with an incapacity degree equal to or greater than 60% to recover road tax (IUC) unduly paid over the last four years, when the loss of exemption resulted from a first medical reassessment that reduced the degree of incapacity below that threshold. The measure applies the most favorable assessment principle and requires that the new certificate relate to the same original clinical pathology. The taxpayer can request a review of the assessments under the General Tax Law, should verify the assessment dates, the vehicle registration anniversary, and compliance with the other exemption conditions, such as the annual limit of 240 euros and use on only one vehicle.
