Trás-os-Montes: good harvest in the vintage, doubt in Valpaços

The vintage is underway in the wine-growing region of Trás-os-Montes with favorable expectations. Producers anticipate an increase in grape production, combined with good product quality this year.

The Trás-os-Montes region is an area recognized for its wine production, and the grape harvest is currently underway. Local farmers are confident about the results of this season.

However, in Valpaços, one of the vineyard areas of the region with 304 hectares of vineyards, the situation is different. A fire that hit the area generated apprehension among local producers, raising doubts about the impact on the vintage results in that municipality.

In contrast to the positive expectation seen in most of Trás-os-Montes, the fire in Valpaços represents a concern for the winemakers who operate there, at a crucial moment of the harvest season.

Tax office can refund up to 4 years of IUC: find out who can recover this money

The Portuguese Tax Authority published guidance that allows taxpayers with an incapacity degree equal to or greater than 60% to recover road tax (IUC) unduly paid over the last four years, when the loss of exemption resulted from a first medical reassessment that reduced the degree of incapacity below that threshold. The measure applies the most favorable assessment principle and requires that the new certificate relate to the same original clinical pathology. The taxpayer can request a review of the assessments under the General Tax Law, should verify the assessment dates, the vehicle registration anniversary, and compliance with the other exemption conditions, such as the annual limit of 240 euros and use on only one vehicle.
