40 pilgrims cross the central mountain range to Bom Jesus

SAPO Notícias5 September 2026 at 10:19

Around 40 pilgrims undertook a walk through the central mountain range to the sanctuary of Bom Jesus, in Braga. The journey took place over several days, crossing mountainous areas and traditional trails used by pilgrims over the years.

Among the participants was the mayor of the Municipality of Câmara de Lobos, who joined the group of pilgrims on this journey of faith and tradition. The participation of public municipal figures has been common in this type of traditional pilgrimage.

The sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in Portugal, located on the Serra do Sameiro. The pilgrimage attracts faithful from various regions of the country, especially during the religious celebrations of the month of May.

This type of walk through the central mountain range represents one of the most traditional forms of pilgrimage to the Braga region, keeping alive a cultural and religious practice rooted in Portuguese history.

Ukraine: Caritas Europe denounces imbalance and demands risk-sharing in humanitarian action

Caritas Europe published a report denouncing the power imbalance in humanitarian action in Ukraine, where local organizations feel treated as "service providers" rather than equal partners, being compared to "Amazon delivery drivers". The study highlights that local associations operate under greater exposure and face a lack of funding for structural expenses, bureaucratic overload and audits that focus more on complex requirements than on real impact. The Catholic network demands a broader change to rebalance power between funders and local entities, calling for the inclusion of minimum standards for physical, psychological and financial security in agreements, and defending that risk-sharing cannot be reduced to a technical process.
