Steve Witkoff, the United States special envoy, and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, will travel to Moscow and subsequently to Kyiv on a mission to try to achieve a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The announcement was made by Trump himself to journalists on Friday.
The North American administration claims to have a new concrete proposal to try to unblock negotiations that have been stalled for several months. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is already in its fifth year, which makes the peace process even more complex.
Trump stated that the United States has a proposal to end the war, but did not reveal details about its content. The central question hanging over this mission is whether the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, will be willing to negotiate, given the deadlock that has occurred in previous attempts at agreement.
