The International Maritime Organization maintains its 2050 decarbonization commitment for large ships

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General5 September 2026 at 09:30

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), the UN-dependent body that regulates the general policies of large ships, concluded yesterday its meeting to address the decarbonization of ship fleets worldwide and managed to maintain the initial objectives, despite attempts by a group of countries to considerably reduce the pace of emission reduction.

The maritime sector emits as many greenhouse gases as all of Japan, so the decarbonization strategy that this industry follows is closely monitored by the international community.
