Baylee Johnson, 24 years old, was 16 weeks pregnant when she suffered a serious accident at a kart track in Sumter, South Carolina, United States. The pregnant woman's hair got caught in the vehicle's gear, causing hyperextension in her neck that prevented her breathing. After eight days hospitalized, Baylee died last Monday, and the baby she had named Johnny also did not survive.
The tragedy had an additional detail: relatives only discovered that Baylee was pregnant after the incident. Her partner, Justin Lowder, revealed that they had planned to announce the pregnancy differently, but ended up sharing the news on Facebook four days before the deaths.
In the post, Justin wrote that God had blessed them with a boy, whose birth was expected on February 21. The local medical examiner confirmed that the cause of death was neck hyperextension resulting from the kart accident.
