'Chic petroleum' in the Amazon Mouth? Samples indicate oil as light as Guyana's, sources say

Petrobras announced the discovery of petroleum in the Amazon Mouth Basin, off the coast of Amapá, at a well called Morpho. The state-owned company has already begun analyzing the characteristics of the oil found at the site.

According to a source in the sector with knowledge of the tests carried out by the company, the initial analysis indicates a petroleum with API gravity between 35 and 40, which represents a good quality oil by industry standards.

The oil found is considered light, a characteristic valued in the petroleum market. The quality is similar to that of petroleum extracted in Guyana, another South American country that also has significant petroleum reserves in the region.
