For the first time since the start of the electoral period on August 16, the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), and the presidential candidate for PL, senator Flávio Bolsonaro, held a joint campaign event this Friday (4), in São Carlos, 230 km from the capital.
Before this event, the two had only met in informal situations such as the Barretos festival or the PL convention, in addition to events by allies. The joint visit included a public technology facility, and the event was aimed at an audience of "converts" in a predominantly conservative region.
Despite the proximity to the electoral period, Tarcísio maintains a "strategic distancing" from the presidential candidate, avoiding controversial topics on the stump, which could represent a potential source of damage to his own state election.
The governor's strategy indicates an attempt not to link his campaign to Bolsonaro's, possibly to avoid compromising his image with more moderate voters, even while participating in joint events.
