Lula complains about campaign materials that associate him with Ciro in Ceará and says ex-minister 'went to the other side'

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) complained this Friday about campaign materials that associate him with Ciro Gomes' (PSDB) candidacy for governor of Ceará. The complaint was made during an interview with Progresso radio in Juazeiro (CE). Lula stated that the tucano candidate's materials have used his image, creating an association that, according to him, does not correspond to reality.

The PT's candidate for governor of Ceará is Elmano de Freitas, who is running for re-election. Lula made clear that his support goes to the current governor and not to Ciro Gomes. "Whoever is with me is Elmano," the president stated, clearly differentiating his position from Ciro Gomes'.

Lula explained that Ciro is allied with opposition parties, including PL, the party of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Therefore, according to Lula, Ciro cannot be considered an ally of the federal government. The tucano would have positioned himself "to the other side," breaking with the governing base.

As GLOBO revealed a week ago, Ciro's allies adopted as a strategy the defense of a coupled vote for the tucano and for Lula. This tactic consisted of asking voters to simultaneously vote for Ciro for state governor and for Lula for president, even without a formal alliance between the campaigns.
